In our new series of 'meet the team' interviews with our hospitality team, we chat with Chris Ives, Product Owner of Alliants Experience Platform.
I was born and raised in South Africa, but had English heritage! I moved here when I was 18 years old and have never looked back. I have always been from a creative and technical background and grew up painting and building computers. I started my career as a web designer/developer before moving into Product management. I have mainly worked in the Fashion industry, however prior to Alliants I was working for a startup in the flower industry.
I was looking for a break away from the dirty London air, but the passion and personalities at Alliants sealed the deal. The chance to work on a product that was looking to disrupt an industry and change the landscape of hospitality was something I could not turn down.
My main passion outside of work life is cycling, or should I say bike packing adventures. I love the freedom of riding around without a structured plan and finding strange places to sleep all whilst exploring the wonderful world we live in. I am also passionate about art and cultures and enjoy traveling around the world.
I had the pleasure of working under the guidance of Angela Ahrends and Christopher Bailey during my time at Burberry. They taught me the importance of staying true to yourself, and believing in your ideas. They had a wonderful balance of personal appreciation and thoughtfulness whilst having the drive and determination to completely redefine a very traditional British brand. They taught me the value of ideas and gave me the freedom to dream.
A great day is something I try to do most weekends, getting out on my bike and exploring or going to the seaside. Mixing that up with a bit of creativity, either painting or drawing whilst relaxing and listening to music is generally how I like to spend my time out of the office.
This is a hard one, I have been incredibly lucky to travel to so many amazing places that it really is hard to pick one. If I was pushed I would have to say that my best experience was watching the sunset on Minhintale Mountain peak in Srilanka was one of the most memorable moments of my life.
Never check your luggage in, you can travel for over 3 weeks on hand luggage only and I highly recommend it...
